Profiting from Cleaner Production:
Resource Kit for Training and Checklists for Action

Background

Access to finance remains a key barrier to investments in Cleaner Production. Financial markets change slowly, but they are becoming more sensitive to sustainability issues, particularly those that influence both investment risk and return. Institutional investors increasingly assess new proposals using a due diligence process that more thoroughly and honestly assesses environmental and social risks and benefits. In addition, a growing group of 'ethical investors' is investing in companies implementing cleaner production and sustainability measures.

Although these are positive steps, further effort is needed to help the financial community understand and realize the economic benefits flowing from the customers' efforts to implement environmental strategies that prevent environmental harm. The key challenge is to anchor cleaner production at the core of the investment decision-making process; making cleaner production a central component of the 'due diligence' process used by financial institutions.

UNEP has developed and presented a series of awareness raising and training courses on Cleaner Production financing. The resource kit is meant for the industrial, financial and public sectors. It has been published on a CD-ROM and is now available online to registered users for free.

The "Resource Kit for Training" is available online to registered users for free. To have access to the full content a password is required. Once you register, you'll receive a password with which you'll be able to access the materials.

Is it available in languages other than English?

The training material has been developed in English (original version) and is being partially translated into other languages. During the course of 2003, we expect at least a part of the material to be available in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese. Click here to check the latest list of available versions.
