Country Focus

To achieve its demonstration goals at the global level, as well as to account for differences in socio-economic conditions and industrial development stages, the project focuses on five pilot countries from three regions in the developing world: Guatemala and Nicaragua from Central America, Tanzania and Zimbabwe from Africa and Vietnam from Asia.

The project targets countries were cleaner production activities have already been conducted and Cleaner Production Centres established under the UNEP/UNIDO Cleaner production Programme. Countries were selected among those that have not yet undergone an intensive industrialisation process but have strong potential to cover this in the near future.

Three to four industrial sub-sectors were chosen in each of the five countries, to better focus project's analyses and activities. The results obtained and lessons learned in the five pilot countries will be used at the global level to motivate key decision-makers in the financial and industrial sector to pursue cleaner production investments in developing countries.
